Factors That Influence Growth In Fish
|
When rearing fish, it is important to consider the various nutritional, environmental and other factors that can influence their growth rate. Important examples are shown in the diagram below:
|
Growth and Temperature
Temperature has a major influence on growth performance. Within physiological limits for the species in question, the higher the water temperature the faster the growth rate. This explains why pond fish put on most of their growth during the summer months.
Aquarian Growth Food
Aquarian Growth Food has been proven to enable healthy growth, without resulting in unnaturally large fish. In a growth study conducted using Tilapia Oreochromis Niloticus as a model for ornamental species, young fish grew better in terms of both length and weight gain when fed Aquarian Growth Food compared to a leading competitor growth diet.
Even though the feed conversion ratio was very similar between the two diets, the specific growth rate was greater in those fish receiving Aquarian (3.05 compared to 2.93). In both instances survival rate remained above 90%, although young fish were in visibly healthier condition when fed Aquarian Growth Food, compared to a leading competitor food.
Interestingly the competitor diet had higher protein content than the Aquarian Growth Food, at 52%, yet produced a lower growth rate. This demonstrates that the Aquarian Flakes provide an optimal protein level for healthy growth, balanced for the essential amino acids, while ensuring maintenance of tank water quality.
In line with the rest of the Aquarian food range, Aquarian Growth Food contains high levels of antioxidants, in particular vitamins C and E, and carotenoids to help young fish to quickly develop optimum health and enhanced disease resistance.
