You & Your Guinea Pig
Guinea Pigs are relatively easy to keep and live on average 5-7 years, in small groups or singular.

Guinea pigs cannot produce their own Vitamin C, so they need some supplement that gives it to them. Most guinea pig food mixes come with added Vitamin C such as the highly recommended Supreme Gerty Guinea Pig Food, but giving them an orange once in a while will also give them the dosage of Vitamin C needed.
You can give your guinea pig the following vegetables:
Carrots Apples Cucumber Dandelion Leaves Peppers and Celery All of these are good for guinea pigs and contain plenty of nutrients and goodness to help keep your pet happy and healthy.
Your guinea pig may get lonely when living alone, but you can always purchase a rabbit to put with the guinea pig and they will get along just fine!
If you have two male guinea pigs, as they get older they may fight for dominance. Basically this is to show who the boss is. It can be quite alarming when first seeing this behaviour, but if they are brought up from babies together then they are usually fine.
You may need to purchase a grooming brush if your guinea pig is long haired. You may also need to cut their nails and this can be difficult and hard work. Beware that cutting their nails too low could cause them to bleed, so take extra care and don't cut them too far down.
If you are inexperienced in trimming nails, we recommend you take your pet to your local vet or professional groomer to avoid injuries and distress.
