Suitable for tropical, marine, and coldwater fish, these live foods are an excellent source of protein and essential nutrients, helping to support the overall health and wellbeing of your aquatic livestock.

Copepods are a group of small crustaceans found in the sea and nearly every freshwater habitat. Some species are planktonic (drifting in sea waters), some are benthic (living on the ocean floor), and some continental species may live in limnoterrestrial habitats and other wet terrestrial places, such as swamps, under leaf fall in wet forests, bogs, springs, ephemeral ponds, and puddles, damp moss, or water-filled recesses (phytotelmata) of plants such as bromeliads and pitcher plants. Many live underground in marine and freshwater caves, sinkholes, or stream beds.

PLEASE Copepods are around the size of ground pepper with a maroon / dark red colour. They are somewhat hard to see normally however can be seen using a magnifying glass.

PLEASE NOTE:

Images shown are generic representations used to demonstrate what the live foods generally look like. The product you receive may differ slightly in appearance, size, colour, or activity level; however, it will be the same live food and quantity ordered.

Live foods are supplied in bags containing approximately half water and half air to ensure safe transportation and maintain the health of the live food during transit.

As these are living organisms, the size, appearance, density, and quantity of individuals may vary between bags and throughout the year due to natural seasonal changes and breeding cycles.

LARGER ORDERS (25+ Live Foods)

Most live foods are heavily stocked each week and can usually be supplied in larger quantities when required. Less frequently ordered live foods, including:

  • Baby Brine Shrimp
  • Mysis Shrimp
  • Phytoplankton
  • Glassworm

are also kept in good stock levels; however, larger orders may occasionally require additional lead time while fresh stock is sourced and prepared.

Our cut-off time for larger orders (25+ units) is Monday at 3:00 PM. Orders placed after this time may not be dispatched during the same week, and we cannot guarantee delivery until the following week. This allows us to maintain stock quality and ensure the freshest possible live foods are supplied.

WARMER WEATHER

During peak summer periods, particularly throughout July and August, when average temperatures across the country regularly exceed 25°C, we may temporarily withhold the dispatch of live and frozen foods. This is due to increased risks associated with high temperatures, postal service delays, service disruptions, and transport conditions that may affect the condition of live and frozen products during transit. In these circumstances, we cannot guarantee that products will arrive in satisfactory condition. Dispatches will resume once temperatures return to more favourable levels for the safe transportation of live and frozen foods.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we prioritise the welfare and quality of our livestock and products.

SEASONALITY

During the warmer months of June to August, live foods may naturally appear smaller or less active due to seasonal breeding and hatching cycles. This is completely normal and does not affect their suitability as a nutritious live food.
